Sympathy CardSharing in your Sorrow sympathy card is designed for the card sketch this week at i Love Card Sketches.   Unfortunately I need a sympathy card this week.

The large oval is cut from the center of the card stock.  The image is colored with markers, spritzed lightly water and then stamped onto the oval.  Then I used an Aqua Painter to added a subtle watercolor wash around the stamped image.

The stamped oval is glued to the center of the card base.

To add the color bands, I cut strips of the card stock and glued them together.  Then I glued the piece to the original piece that the oval was cut from.  I lined up the same oval framelit and cut out the colored bands to match the original oval.  The banded piece is attached to the front of the card base with dimensionals.

The simplicity of design of the Sharing in your Sorrow card makes it seem more subdued and appropriate for a sympathy card.

Thinking of YouToday’s Thinking of You card is a monochromatic color scheme.  The card is designed for the card sketch challenge at i Love Card Sketches.

This print pattern of Timeless Elegance Designer Series Paper goes well with the new Curvy Corner Trio punch.  Once the corners are punched you can still see the pattern and it looks a bit like lace.

Just a word about the new Curvy Corner Trio punch – the punch includes three corners:  the one you see here, a scalloped corner and a slot.  Yeah, a slot punch for ribbon!

This style bow and ribbon add a little more formal elegance.  It shows just a touch of the Basic Gray card stock behind the ribbon.iLCS46

I used one of the smaller framelits from the Lots of Labels set to cut the Basic Gray mat and used the small framelit with a piece of card stock that is slightly smaller in width than the framelit and cut the Very Vanilla layer.  First on one end and then the other.  If you use the next size larger for the Basic Gray mat, the mat layer looks too large.

Give today’s card sketch a try.  Visit i Love Card Sketches to see other examples and to upload your creation.  I would love to see your creations.

Sympathy Card

Sympathy Card

Today’s Praying for You card is created for a neighbor fighting cancer.  If I can brighten the family’s day just a little, that is my goal.  In the midst of their struggle, they need to know they are not alone.

The stamp set is Thought & Prayers and Flower Shop.

The accent ribbon behind the focal point is a little different.  I used Crumb Cake Striped Grosgrain Ribbon and then glued strips of Crisp Cantaloupe Thick Baker’s Twine over the grosgrain ribbon.  I like the effect of the color and texture it adds.  Just a note:  since the ribbon is cut just at the edges of the card, I finished the edges with Crystal Effects so the ribbons don’t fray.

The pearls on the flowers are colored with Crisp Cantaloupe and Crystal Effects.

The theme is carried inside the card with the stamped image and message.
