birthday card

birthday card insideCelebrate Birthday Card is the beginning of my birthday season. Design follows a card sketch over at Mojo Monday.

Over the next six weeks I have several family birthdays, many of them male.  Usually this time of year you will see holiday cards being featured, but not for me.  I need to get busy and so this is my first one for our eldest son.

It looks a little complex, but most of the design is created with the Bohemian Designer Series Paper with very little stamping.  The front of the card is layered with card stock and the Designer Series Paper.  On the inside I added a block of color and the sentiment.

Check out the list of supplies I used on the Celebrate Birthday Card:

Best WishesThe Timeless Elegance Designer Series Paper makes this Wedding Card a snap to put together.  Using the Corner Garden stamp to coordinate with the Designer Series Paper ties the the theme together.

I used Silver embossing powder to make the sentiment pop and to add a bit of sparkle.  The heart in the center has several layers of the Silver embossing powder and is attached with a glue dot to make sure it stays in place.

Happy Birthday CardILCS27Happy Birthday Wishes Oval Frames – saying goodbye to 2013-2015 In Colors:  Pistachio Pudding, Crisp Cantaloupe, Coastal Cabana, Baked Brown Sugar, and Strawberry Slush.  These have been some of my favorite colors and I am hopeful that someday we may see them back in our color collections.

Today’s card uses three of the five retiring In Colors.  This piece of Lullaby Designer Series Paper has a great combination of the In Colors.

The focal image is colored with Pistachio Pudding ink and Baked Brown Sugar is added with a marker.  Both of the Very Vanilla ovals are sponged with Baked Brown sugar.  The focal image and the sentiment are popped up with dimensionals.

The card is designed for the card sketch at i Love Card Sketches.  The site is a weekly card sketch challenge where you will find card sketch ideas and you can post your creations of those sketches.  I look forward to seeing your cards on i Love Card Sketches.

Beautiful BunchToday’s Beautiful Bunch Petals Card is created using Stampin’ Up! supplies.

I love the specialty paper such as the new Irresistibly Your Specialty Designer Series Paper.  You can use it plain for a subtle shiny background or color it to bring out the design.  The piece used today coordinates beautifully with the Fancy Fan embossing folder.

The specialty paper is sponged with Pink Pirouette, Rich Razzleberry and Lost Lagoon ink using sponge daubers.  Depending on the effect you want to achieve, you can also spritze color onto the paper or brayer color onto the paper.  You can also use markers to accent areas.

The Whisper White and Pink Pirouette card stock has rounded corners on the bottom.  I glued them together and then embossed them with the Fancy Fan embossing folder.

The flower is stamped with Rich Razzleberry ink  onto Whisper White card stock.  After punching the flower I added a color wash of Rich Razzleberry using the Aqua Painter.  The center of the flower is stamped in Lost Lagoon onto Whisper White card stock and then “fussy” cut out.  I added a 1/4″ circle of Pink Pirouette to the center and a large pearl.

The flower is layered over a scalloped circle of Pink Pirouette that is sponged with Rich Razzleberry.  Add a couple of Lost Lagoon ribbon tails using glue dots to attach them.  The flower and scalloped circle are popped up with dimensionals.

I hope you enjoy this Beautiful Bunch card and will experiment with the specialty paper.

When I saw the sketch, I knew I wanted to use Designer Series Paper for the little blocks and the Hello You Thinlits are perfect for the sentiment.ILCS17 sketch

To give the “thanks” a bit more depth, I cut the word out twice – once with Cajun Craze card stock and one with Early Espresso card stock.  I layered the two just slightly off so it looks like a shadow with the Early Espresso in the back.  The shadow effect is repeated in the strip across the bottom of the card and on the inside of the card.

The bricks are layered over Cajun Craze card stock.

What do you think?  Do the brick blocks need another layer with the Early Espresso also?  Please leave a comment below with your opinion.

Thinking of You CardToday’s Thinking of You card is striking in black and white.

The background is a piece of Back to Black Designer Series Paper (DSP) layered over a Whisper White card base.

I added a strip of Basic Black card stock under the Whisper White tag I punched out with the Angled Tag Topper.

There is very little stamping on this card.  The greeting “thinking of you” is from Sheltering Tree.  The leaves for the tree is stamped on the bottom of the tag using Tuxedo Black Memento ink.  In order to “stack” the words of the greeting, I inked each word individually with a Basic Black marker.

I topped off the tag with a small Antique Brad.

The White Jute Ribbon adds texture and I think is a wonderful compliment to the black and white floral theme.

This black and white thinking of you card is quick and easy.

Birthday CardOne more Handmade Birthday Card – this time for my granddaughter.  After this one only two more in December.  Nearly 50% of our family birthdays are in November and December.

Designer Series Paper makes it so easy to created a coordinated background.  For this card the DSP is split to provide a little interest.  The focal point is made using two of the framelits from Apothecary Accents.  My first attempt at the message was a rectangle layer of Whisper White card stock.  It just didn’t look quite right.  I took the stamp and traced the outline of the rubber on the back of the rectangle and cut out around “Happy Birthday”.  I like the results much more than the original.  The card is finished with a small bow and tails on each side.

Happy Birthday CardSea Street Happy Birthday is such a fun card.  This one will go to my soon to be 6-year old grandson.  I know he will like the bright colors and maritime theme.

The colors for the card are pulled from the Maritime Designer Series Paper which is a perfect background for our friendly octopus from the Sea Street stamp set.  I added the sentiment and party hat from Sketched Birthday stamp set.

Another fun feature on this card is the Coastal Cabana Thick Baker’s Twine.  I have seen this done on several cards lately and really like the effect on this card.  To do this I laid down a thin line of Liquid Multipurpose Glue onto the Silicone Craft Sheet.  Then lay the Baker’s Twine over the glue and set aside to let it dry.  The glue dries clear and you can then transfer your creation to your project.  You can use this technique to make loose bows or outline a bold image.

Try this technique on a project and share your results.  I would love to see your creation.  Email me with pictures.  If you share your pictures, I will give you an additional 10% off a stamp set of your choice from my supply of retired Stampin’ Up stamps.  I have the Christmas-themed stamp sets listed HERE, but I have many more that are not listed yet.

Thing of You CardThis Thinking of You Card is created using the card sketch from i Love Card Sketches.  I am so excited to be one of the designers for this new card sketch blog.  We will be presenting new card sketches every week.  We want you to join us and upload your own versions of the projects using our sketches.

For my version of today’s sketch, I used Moonlight Designer Series Paper layered onto Blackberry Bliss card stock.  This is attached to a Whisper White card front.

The focal point is cut from Hello Honey, Blackberry Bliss, and Whisper White card stock with the Circles Framelits.

The sentiment is from Wetlands stamp set.  You can make up several of these quick and easy, all-occasion cards and leave the sentiment off.  When you need a card for a particular occasion just stamp the appropriate sentiment.

Join me “where paper meets creativity” and create your own card projects from this week’s sketch at i Love Card Sketches.
